History
The W107 SL lasted in production for almost 20 Years. Expanded in every way over the 'pagoda roof' SL, it was initially powered by Merc's 3.5-liter V8, or the 4.5-liter V8. Modernised suspension featured semi-trailing arm rear end, and there was standard power steering, and optional automatic.
From '74, the 280SL was launched on the continent , sporting the twin cam six-cylinder engine from the 280E. Like its predecessor, the optional removable hardtop had a dip in the roof. Range revamped in 1980 to become 280SL/380SL/500SL.
