History

A unitary body, roomy interior and wind-up windows - this was MG heresy, but extremely popular in America. 1.8-liter B-series development offered more power, higher final drive for an elevated top speed, optional overdrive. Some early 1962 prototypes were made of aluminum, but most MGBs were made of rust-prone steel. Some MGB-GT coupes still featured aluminum hoods - bring your magnet! A fiberglass hardtop was available from 1964 on, as was a new, stronger five-bearing crank; front anti-roll bar starting in 1966. The MGB MkII of 1967 has new all-synchro gearbox, improved rear axle, automatic option. Rostyle wheels, matt black grille and revised interior from 1969. The biggest following of any classic car ensures parts abundance and unrivalled specialist support. Top examples will start at an eye-popping $12,000 for those who have followed MGBs for any length of time.

TR6s are a perennial entry-level collector car. A robust drivetrain, and good aftermarket parts supply has kept more than a few on the road. Of course, they rust everywhere so good ones bring a premium.
