Like the T, the Model A was a side-valve four, but it was twice as powerful and set in a 103.5-in. wheelbase chassis with three-speed sliding gear transmission and four-wheel brakes. There was a pretty “Lincoln” look to the Model A — but with introductory prices as low as $385 — it was indisputably a Ford. In the four years it was built, the Model A was America’s best selling car in 1929 and 1930, though Chevy won in 1928 and 1931. Nearly five million Model As had been built by March 31, 1932. Became a very popular collector car in mid-1950s and spawned two giant clubs. Still a sweetheart and prices on the upswing lately.
